22 February 2026

The Faculty of Shari’ah and Law (FSL) at The Maldives National University marked a significant milestone in its academic development by welcoming its first cohort of PhD students in Islamic Shari’ah and Islamic Studies at an orientation program held online on 22 February 2026.

The program welcomed five doctoral students, comprising four students enrolled in Islamic Shari’ah, and one student enrolled in Islamic Studies. The online orientation introduced the students to the faculty and provided an overview of academic guidelines, doctoral study requirements, and expectations for their research journey. It also helped familiarize the students with the academic environment and the responsibilities associated with doctoral-level study.

The Registrar of The Maldives National University, Mr. Mohamed Laamir, also participated in the program and shared valuable information and guidance regarding the doctoral program and the students’ academic journey. His contribution helped students gain a clearer understanding of the program requirements and expectations of doctoral-level study.

This milestone reflects FSL’s commitment to advancing postgraduate education, strengthening research capacity, and promoting scholarly contributions in Shari’ah and Islamic Studies. Through its doctoral program, the faculty seeks to develop researchers and scholars who can contribute to academic knowledge and address issues relevant to Maldivian society and the wider scholarly community.
