Students from the Advanced Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism and Certificate III in Front Office programmes at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) visited Barceló Nasandhura Malé on 16 February 2026 for an educational hotel tour and industry engagement session.

The visit provided 42 students and 3 staff with an opportunity to experience a professional hospitality environment first-hand, explore the hotel’s facilities, and gain practical insights into front office operations and industry practices. The experience supported education and learning by enabling students to connect classroom knowledge with its application in a real-world hospitality setting while contributing to their skills development.

As part of the visit, students participated in an industry engagement session focusing on internships and work placements. The session increased students’ awareness of potential pathways into employment and helped them better understand the knowledge, skills, and professional standards expected when entering the hospitality industry.

Students found the visit informative and valuable, particularly the opportunity to observe hotel operations and learn directly about opportunities available within the sector. The experience contributed to student success by strengthening students’ confidence, career awareness, and readiness to pursue practical training and future employment opportunities.

Through industry links and collaboration with organisations such as Barceló Nasandhura Malé, FHTS continues to provide students with meaningful opportunities to engage with the tourism and hospitality industry. Such experiences strengthen the connection between academic learning, skills development, and employment, helping prepare students for their transition into the workplace.
