9 December 2025

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) collaborated with the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders in the Public Health Conference, held from 8–9 December 2025 and organised by HPA in collaboration with Maldives National University (MNU).

The two-day conference marked a renewed national commitment to convene a public health platform every two years, creating opportunities for continued dialogue on public health priorities, emerging challenges, and progress across the sector.

The 2025 conference focused on the theme “Equitable Access, Reduced Vulnerabilities: Advancing Migrant Health in the Maldives.” The event brought together stakeholders to discuss policy implementation, service delivery, and the health-related vulnerabilities faced by migrant communities.

Through technical sessions and collaborative discussions, participants explored evidence-informed approaches to addressing public health priorities and promoting more equitable health outcomes. The conference provided an important platform for knowledge exchange and strengthened collaboration between academic, government, and public health stakeholders.

FHS representatives included Fathimath Nahla, Fathimath Maeesha, Aminath Samha, Mariyam Neerish, Zeenath Shakir, Mariyam Ifshan Ahmed, and Unaisa Saud, alongside staff from the Department of Public Health (DPH), Department of Biomedical Sciences (DBS), and Department of Research Services (DRS).

The conference concluded with a closing ceremony showcasing key outputs, national public health milestones, and recent achievements across the sector. The event reinforced the importance of coordinated action and collaboration in strengthening an inclusive public health system in the Maldives.

The initiative contributed to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) through its focus on equitable access and migrant health, while also supporting SDG 4, SDG 5, SDG 8, SDG 9, SDG 11, SDG 16, and SDG 17 through education, collaboration, inclusive development, and strengthened public health systems.
