On 18th September, around 20 Civil Engineering and Architecture students from the Construction Project Management module at FEST visited the Land Reclamation and Shore Protection for Future Infrastructure Project at Hulhumalé Phase 3, developed by Mohan Mutha Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. for the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Maldives. The visit exposed students to practical aspects of marine infrastructure development, including dredging, reclamation, revetment works, coastal protection, project planning, scheduling, quality control, risk management, and stakeholder coordination. Students observed construction activities, modern technologies, environmental safeguards, and infrastructure integration processes. A follow-up interview session was conducted on 25th September with the Head of Projects from Mohan Mutha Infrastructures, where students gained further insights into real-world project management practices across initiation, planning, execution, and closure phases, enhancing their understanding of industry challenges and solutions.

The site visit and follow-up industry engagement align with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by exposing students to modern marine infrastructure, construction technologies, project planning, and quality management. It supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through practical learning on land reclamation, infrastructure integration, and coastal protection for future urban development. The activity contributes to SDG 13 (Climate Action) by highlighting environmental safeguards, risk management, and climate-resilient approaches to coastal infrastructure. It supports SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by exposing students to the environmental considerations and safeguards associated with dredging, reclamation, and marine construction activities. Finally, it advances SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening collaboration between FEST, industry professionals, and infrastructure development organizations through site visits, knowledge sharing, and professional engagement.
