Faculty of Arts Continues BA-LIM Programme with New Second-Year Cohort

08 February 2026

The Faculty of Arts at The Maldives National University (MNU) has commenced the second-year cohort of the Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information Management (BA-LIM), continuing its efforts to develop skilled professionals for the Maldives’ library and information services sector.

The continuation of the programme reflects the importance of providing students with opportunities to progress through their academic studies and build the knowledge and competencies required for professional practice. The programme supports the development of expertise in managing information resources, facilitating access to knowledge, and contributing to the delivery of library and information services.

The cohort structure has been planned around efficient use of educational resources and flexible academic scheduling. This approach supports the delivery of learning opportunities while enabling students to continue their studies within the programme’s academic framework.

Through its focus on library and information management, the programme aims to prepare graduates to contribute to knowledge organisation, information access, and community learning. These areas are important to libraries and other information services that help individuals and communities locate, understand, and use information effectively.

The commencement of the second-year cohort reflects the Faculty of Arts’ continued commitment to student progression and professional capacity-building. The initiative contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by supporting continuity in higher education; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by developing professional knowledge and skills for the library and information services workforce; SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) through continued educational opportunities for students; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by supporting the development of information professionals who can contribute to access to knowledge and information services.
