Creative reuse invites learners to see discarded materials differently

21 APRIL 2026
World Creativity and Innovation Day engaged different age groups in turning reusable and discarded materials into a practical creative challenge.

The activity reached more than 1,000 participants through physical participation and social media engagement. Learners explored new ways of working with materials that might otherwise be treated as waste.

By bringing creativity, problem-solving and resource awareness together, the programme complemented HC’s work on composting, gardening and sustainable campus practice. It also created an accessible way for younger participants and community members to engage with innovation.

Through this work, MNU Hithadhoo Campus contributed directly to SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, particularly Target 12.5 on waste reduction and reuse. The activity also supported SDG 4 – Quality Education; SDG 9 – Industry Innovation and Infrastructure; SDG 13 – Climate Action. Within the MNU Strategic Plan 2026–2030, it advanced Goal 2 – Exemplary Research and Innovation; Goal 5 – Building a Sustainable and Resilient MNU; Goal 9 – Student-Centred Excellence.
