Compost Day shows how organic material can return to campus soil

10 MAY 2026
Twenty-nine participants worked with growing, soil care and the reuse of organic material during a practical campus activity.

Gardening and Compost Day treated organic material as a resource that can be returned to the soil rather than disposed of as waste. Participants could see the direct connection between waste reduction, soil improvement, and plant care.

Through this work, MNU Hithadhoo Campus contributed directly to SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, particularly Target 12.5 on reducing waste through prevention reuse and recycling. The activity also supported SDG 4 – Quality Education; SDG 13 – Climate Action; SDG 15 – Life on Land. Within the MNU Strategic Plan 2026–2030, it advanced Goal 5 – Building a Sustainable and Resilient MNU; Goal 8 – Fostering a Conducive Work and Learning Environment; Goal 9 – Student-Centred Excellence.
