Assistant Professor Dr. Fathimath Shougee attended Lunchtime Talk 10, titled “Nearshore Tsunami Amplitudes Across the Maldives Archipelago Due to Worst-Case Seismic Scenarios in the Indian Ocean,” organized by the Research Development Office at The Maldives National University (MNU).
The research presentation explored coastal hazard modelling, tsunami wave amplitude distribution, and disaster vulnerability assessments tailored to the unique geographical characteristics of the Maldivian atolls. The session provided insights into tsunami risk and the importance of research-informed approaches to disaster preparedness and resilience.
The engagement supports SDG 4 – Quality Education by promoting continuous learning and engagement with current research, SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities by supporting disaster resilience, SDG 13 – Climate Action by strengthening awareness of environmental risks, and SDG 14 – Life Below Water by highlighting the importance of understanding and protecting vulnerable marine and coastal environments.
