The Maldives National University (MNU), through its Examination Department in partnership with the Maldives Nursing and Midwifery Council (MNMC), conducted monthly nurse competency examinations in 2024, assessing a total of 1,117 nurses against national professional standards. The examinations support the maintenance of nursing standards and contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and quality healthcare services across the Maldives.
The competency examinations assess the knowledge and skills of registered nurses, helping ensure they meet the professional requirements necessary to provide appropriate patient care. By evaluating nursing competencies against established national standards, the initiative supports professional accountability, strengthens confidence in healthcare services and contributes to improved patient safety and outcomes.
The examinations also promote continuous professional development by encouraging nurses to maintain and demonstrate the competencies required throughout their careers. Strengthening the knowledge and practical capabilities of healthcare professionals is essential to responding to community health needs and building a resilient healthcare system.
Through its collaboration with MNMC, MNU continues to support the development of a competent nursing workforce while strengthening the connection between professional assessment, education and healthcare delivery. This partnership demonstrates the importance of coordinated institutional efforts in improving healthcare quality, supporting lifelong learning and ensuring that nursing professionals are equipped to meet the evolving needs of the population.
MNU remains committed to working with national institutions to strengthen professional standards, advance educational opportunities and contribute to the well-being of communities across the Maldives.
