FHS Contributes to National Suicide Prevention Strategy Validation

3 September 2025

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) contributed professional and stakeholder input to the National Suicide Prevention Strategy Validation Meeting held on 3 September 2025.

Mariyam Ifshan Ahmed represented FHS at the meeting, which brought together key stakeholders to review the draft National Suicide Prevention Strategy and provide feedback prior to its finalisation. The engagement provided an opportunity to contribute professional perspectives and strengthen the strategy through stakeholder consultation.

Participation in the validation process supported efforts towards a more coordinated and evidence-informed approach to suicide prevention in the Maldives. It also strengthened collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders working within the national mental health sector.

The initiative reflects FHS’s engagement beyond academic and clinical education, contributing professional expertise to national-level mental health initiatives and supporting collaborative efforts to address suicide prevention.

The engagement contributed to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by supporting national efforts to strengthen suicide prevention and mental health services, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through stakeholder collaboration and professional knowledge exchange.
