The Maldives National Journal of Research (MNJR) published three issues in 2024, comprising 18 scholarly articles across Volume 12 Issue 1, Volume 12 Issue 2 and the THEVELI 2024 Special Issue. The publications brought together research across a wide range of disciplines, reflecting diverse areas of academic inquiry in the Maldives and beyond.
The articles explored topics ranging from higher education, student well-being and public health to family and social issues, foreign investment, biodiversity, water treatment, reproductive health, nutrition, migrant health and Dhivehi language development. Several studies focused directly on issues of national relevance, including healthcare in the Maldives, school closures during COVID-19, divorce and post-divorce experiences, migrant workers’ access to healthcare, and challenges affecting local language and education.
The THEVELI 2024 Special Issue further expanded the journal’s multidisciplinary reach by publishing research linked to health, technology, water management, psychology and language studies. Together, the three issues demonstrated the role of MNJR in providing researchers with a platform to share evidence, examine emerging challenges and contribute knowledge that can support academic discussion, professional practice and national development.
Across the 18 articles, the research aligned with a range of Sustainable Development Goals, including those related to health and well-being, education, gender equality, economic growth, innovation, reduced inequalities, responsible consumption, terrestrial ecosystems, strong institutions and partnerships.
