Senior Lecturer Mariyam Azra Abdul Raheem participated as a panel member in a discussion held on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, titled “Shaamilu Mashvara: Disability Inclusion and Beyond.” The event was organised by the Department of Inclusive Education in collaboration with UNICEF and The Maldives National University.
The discussion provided a platform to raise awareness about disability inclusion, diverse needs, and the importance of creating inclusive systems that enable persons with disabilities to participate fully and access equal opportunities. The panel also highlighted the importance of fostering inclusive practices across educational and wider social environments.
The initiative directly supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education by promoting inclusive and equitable education and encouraging learning environments that respond to the diverse needs of all learners. The event also advances SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by advocating for the inclusion, empowerment, and equal participation of persons with disabilities. Promoting awareness of barriers and diverse needs contributes to efforts to create more equitable and accessible systems and opportunities.
Furthermore, the collaboration between the Department of Inclusive Education, UNICEF, and The Maldives National University contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by bringing together educational institutions, international organisations, and other stakeholders to share knowledge and strengthen collective efforts towards inclusive education and sustainable development.
