Professional Development Session on Mathematics Teaching and AI Conducted for Hafiz Ahmed School and Fuvahmulaku School Teachers

On 18th October 2025, Senior Lecturer Mohamed Shihab conducted a Professional Development (PD) session titled “Hisaabuge Aleegai Dharivarunge Kibaigai Massala Hallu Kurumuge Hunaru Tharaggee Kurumaai, AI Beynun Kohgen Hisaabu Ungannai Dhinumuge Fannee Gaabilikan Mudharisunge Kibaigai Ithuru Kurun” for 30 teachers from Hafiz Ahmed School (HAS) and Fuvahmulaku School.

The session focused on strengthening teachers’ capacity in mathematics teaching through innovative approaches and the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Participants explored strategies for developing students’ problem-solving and mathematical thinking skills, while enhancing classroom practices to make mathematics learning more engaging and effective.

The programme also emphasised the development of teachers’ digital competencies, highlighting how AI and digital tools can be responsibly integrated into mathematics education to support teaching, learning, and student engagement.

The initiative contributed to quality and learner-centred education by strengthening teacher capacity and encouraging innovative approaches to mathematics teaching. It also promoted digital innovation in education through the practical integration of emerging technologies, while highlighting the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing between the Faculty of Education and schools in supporting continuous professional development.

The session provided teachers with practical strategies to enhance mathematics instruction and support students in developing problem-solving skills, mathematical confidence, and effective learning habits.
