The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) hosted guest lectures by the Maldives Police Service on 15 October 2024, providing Bachelor of Psychology students with practical insights into investigative psychology as part of their Forensic Psychology module.
The session was attended by 15 students and two staff members, including Unaisa Saud and Mariyam Ifshan. The guest lectures complemented students’ academic learning by introducing perspectives from professionals working directly within the criminal justice and investigative context.
The session provided students with an opportunity to explore how psychological knowledge can be applied to investigative practices and strengthened their understanding of the role of forensic psychology within the broader criminal justice system.
Engagement with practitioners from the Maldives Police Service also enabled students to connect theoretical concepts with professional practice in the Maldivian context. Exposure to real-world applications can help students develop a clearer understanding of the diverse roles available to psychology graduates and the importance of collaboration between psychology and law enforcement professionals.
The guest lectures further supported knowledge exchange between The Maldives National University (MNU) and the Maldives Police Service, creating opportunities for greater engagement between academic and professional sectors.
Such practitioner-led learning experiences form an important part of practice-oriented education, allowing students to gain perspectives that complement classroom teaching and strengthen their preparation for future professional roles.
The initiative reflects FHS’s commitment to providing students with contextualised learning opportunities and strengthening partnerships with organisations across relevant professional sectors.
The activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through enriched, practice-oriented learning and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through knowledge exchange and collaboration between MNU and the Maldives Police Service.
