As part of the World Tourism Day collaboration between the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the first session of the Knowledge Transfer Series was held on 25 November 2025.

Conducted by the Ministry’s Tourism Policy and Strategy Planning Section, the session brought together 20 staff members from FHTS and the Ministry. Lecturers received updates on recent tourism policy changes, strategic priorities, and tourism development models shaping the Maldivian tourism sector.

Through presentations, discussions, and knowledge sharing, lecturers gained current information that can be incorporated into teaching, curriculum discussions, research, and student learning. Staff highlighted the relevance of the session to the subjects they teach and the value of using current Maldivian examples to strengthen quality education.

The session also introduced lecturers to changing approaches to tourism development and innovation within the sector. Keeping academic staff informed about current policies and industry developments helps connect classroom teaching with the world of work and ensures that students are exposed to issues currently shaping tourism in the Maldives.

The Knowledge Transfer Series also strengthens collaboration between FHTS and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Continued knowledge sharing between academia and policymakers can help keep tourism education relevant to national priorities while creating opportunities for further engagement in teaching and research.
