The Department of Dhivehi Language and Culture, Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU), marked Dhivehi Bahuge Dhuvas on 18 October 2025 as part of its Term 2 academic activities, bringing together students through a programme of language, literary, and cultural activities.

The celebration created an engaging learning environment where students explored the Dhivehi language and its connection to Maldivian literature and cultural heritage. The activities extended learning beyond the classroom and encouraged students to participate actively in the use and appreciation of the national language.

As part of the programme, students of the Dhivehi for Professionals course took part in activities that enabled them to apply their language and communication skills in practical contexts. The activities also provided opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding and competencies through experiential and participatory learning.

Student participation included activities that encouraged creative expression, communication, teamwork, and active engagement with Dhivehi language and culture. Some of the activities were incorporated into the students’ academic assessment, allowing practical engagement to complement classroom-based learning.

The celebration also recognised student achievement through an award ceremony. High-achieving students and competition winners were presented with trophies in recognition of their accomplishments and participation in the programme.

Through the celebration, MNU provided students with an opportunity to connect academic learning with the wider linguistic and cultural environment of the Maldives. The initiative also highlighted the importance of continued engagement with Dhivehi language, literature, and cultural heritage among university students.

The event contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing experiential and participatory learning opportunities through which students applied language and communication skills in practical contexts. It also supported SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by promoting awareness and appreciation of Dhivehi language, literature, and Maldivian cultural heritage, supporting continued engagement with local cultural identity.
