FHTS Students Organise Fathuruvehin 2024

Bachelor’s degree students of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) organised Fathuruvehin 2024, featuring a panel discussion titled “Leveraging Digital Storytelling to Promote Unique Island Experiences in Guest Houses.” The event brought together experts from the public and private sectors to discuss the role of digital storytelling in promoting authentic island experiences and strengthening guest house tourism in the Maldives.

The discussion explored how guest houses can use digital platforms to showcase local culture, traditions, island life, and community-based activities. It highlighted the role of innovation and digital technologies in increasing the visibility and competitiveness of local guest houses while promoting the distinctive experiences of island communities.

The event also explored how guest house tourism can contribute to employment, entrepreneurship, and local development by creating economic opportunities within island communities. Promoting locally rooted experiences and local culture also encouraged discussion around sustainable tourism and responsible consumption and productionwithin the tourism sector.

Students gained insights into current tourism practices and the world of work through direct engagement with tourism stakeholders. By bringing together public and private sector perspectives, Fathuruvehin 2024 also supported collaboration and knowledge sharing, connecting quality education with current developments in the tourism industry.
