Six Senior Lecturers from DMS, one ER Medical Officer, and one Nurse visited Northumbria from the Maldives Team visited NHS Northumbria under under the project SCALE(Stregnthening health care workforce capacity through global learning). An ongoing project is a partnership between NHS Northumbria and MNU to stregnthen the surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance(AMR) and achieving reduced hospital acquired infections and antimicrobial stewarship in selected Regional Hospitals of Maldives.
The visit consisted of several shadowing and observing opportunities, including:

• Day in the Life of a Microbiologist/IPC Director/IPC Nurse
• Global Point Prevalence Survey Audit Workshop
• Community nurse shadowing

The participants gained critical exposore in understanding the IPC & AMR governance framework and institutional systems in place to ensure and deliver quality healthcare services within the NHS Northumbria Trust. The participants gained an understanding of colloborative initiatives build between the Academia and clinical settings to drive health systems to reduce health inequalities and increase accescibility of critical health services to under previleged communities in Northumberland, Newcastle, UK
