Presented by Dr. Saifulla Muslim, “Overcoming Challenges: Resilience and Growth”.
The Maldives National University (MNU) welcomed Dr. Saifulla Muslim, one of the University’s first Doctor of Medicine (MD) graduates, as part of its Speaker Series. Delivering an inspiring talk titled “Overcoming Challenges: Resilience and Growth,” Dr. Saifulla shared his personal journey of perseverance, leadership, and lifelong learning.
Reflecting on his experiences as an MD student, founding President of Medicos, former Vice President of Wings of MNUSU, and now a House Officer at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Dr. Saifulla encouraged students to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. He also spoke candidly about living with thalassaemia and how his experiences as a patient have shaped his compassion, resilience, and commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
His story highlighted the importance of leadership, service, and continuous learning while inspiring students to pursue excellence both academically and personally. The session reinforced MNU’s commitment to nurturing graduates who contribute meaningfully to society through professional achievement, community service, and lifelong learning.
This Speaker Series supports SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being by promoting health awareness, resilience, and the importance of compassionate healthcare. It advances SDG 4 – Quality Education by inspiring lifelong learning, leadership, and personal development through alumni engagement. The event also contributes to SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities by demonstrating how individuals can overcome personal health challenges to achieve academic and professional success, and SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by fostering ethical leadership, civic responsibility, and active student engagement. Through the participation of distinguished MNU alumni, the event further strengthens SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, reinforcing enduring connections between the University, its graduates, and the wider community.
