The Maldives National University (MNU) conducted a career guidance session for Grade 8 students of Dharumavantha School at the MNU Business School, aimed at supporting students as they prepare to make informed decisions regarding their O-Level academic streams.
The session provided students with guidance on key factors to consider when selecting an academic stream, while introducing them to different stream options and potential educational and career pathways. Students were encouraged to consider their interests, strengths and future aspirations when making decisions that may shape their academic and professional journeys.
A total of 56 students from Dharumavantha School participated in the session, which was facilitated by lecturers from the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology (FEST), and MNU Business School (MNUBS). Through insights from diverse academic disciplines, students were introduced to a range of fields of study and potential career opportunities available through higher education.
The initiative reflects MNU’s continued commitment to engaging with schools and empowering young learners with the knowledge and guidance needed to make informed educational and career choices. The session contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by promoting access to relevant educational guidance and supporting students in making informed decisions about their learning pathways.
It also aligns with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by promoting early career awareness and helping students understand potential career pathways, skills development opportunities and the importance of making informed choices for their future participation in the workforce.
Furthermore, the collaboration between MNU and Dharumavantha School reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the importance of strong partnerships between educational institutions in creating meaningful learning opportunities and supporting the development of young people.
