The Maldives National University (MNU), through the MNU Business School, conducted a Career Guidance Session for 130 Grade 8 students of Thaajuddeen School, supporting them in making informed decisions as they prepare to select their academic streams and optional subjects.

The session focused on helping students understand their interests, strengths, abilities, and future aspirations while providing practical guidance on choosing academic pathways aligned with their higher education and career goals.

During the session, students were introduced to the Science, Business, and BTEC streams, including their respective advantages, potential higher education opportunities, and career pathways. The session also provided practical guidance on selecting optional subjects and highlighted how these choices can influence future areas of study and professional opportunities.

Particular attention was given to Computer Science, Travel & Tourism, Marine Science, and Economics, with students gaining insights into the relevance of these subjects and the diverse academic and career opportunities they can lead to. Students were also introduced to examples of higher education programmes and career pathways associated with different stream and subject combinations.

Through this initiative, MNU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting young people in making informed educational decisions and strengthening the connection between secondary education, higher education, and future employment opportunities.

The initiative contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by providing students with relevant knowledge and guidance to make informed educational choices. It also supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by increasing young people’s awareness of future education-to-employment pathways and career opportunities. In addition, the initiative advances SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening collaboration between MNU and Thaajuddeen School to support the educational and career development of young people.

These goals are closely interconnected: quality education (SDG 4) equips young people with the knowledge and skills needed for future opportunities, supporting their transition towards productive employment and economic participation (SDG 8), while partnerships between educational institutions (SDG 17) help create stronger pathways between schools, higher education institutions, and the world of work. Through such collaboration, MNU contributes to building a skilled, informed, and future-ready generation.
