The Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University, was pleased to participate in the Academic-Policy Dialogue Seminar hosted by the School of Security and Strategic Studies (SSSS), MNU, for a 17-member delegation from India’s National Defence College (NDC), which visited the Maldives on 2 September 2026.
Representing the Faculty of Arts were Dean Dr Aminath Riyaz, Head of the Department of Social Sciences Ms Wajda Gasim, and colleagues from the department Dr Aly Shameem, and Mr Mohamed Hoodh Ibrahim. The Faculty shared insights into its academic programmes and expertise in the areas of Political Science, International Relations, and Media and Public Relations, highlighting the interconnected nature of geopolitics, governance, communication, and contemporary regional developments.

The discussion also provided an opportunity to share the Faculty’s growing engagement with issues of ocean governance and regional affairs, including the Ocean Governance Symposium hosted by MNU in recent years.
Looking ahead, the Faculty also highlighted its newly opened intake for the PhD in Social Sciences, a multidisciplinary programme that provides opportunities for research across a broad range of areas, including Political Science, International Relations, Public Relations, governance, and other emerging issues of national and regional importance.

As the geopolitical landscape continues to evolve, such academic-policy engagements provide valuable spaces for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the sharing of diverse perspectives.
It was a pleasure for the Faculty of Arts to be part of this important dialogue and to engage with the distinguished delegation from India’s National Defence College.
