Maldives National University (MNU) Library will conduct an orientation session on the “Importance of the Library” as part of the General Orientation Programme for Term 2, 2026. The session will be held at the A Block Auditorium and is being organised in collaboration with MNU Student Support for the new student intake.
The session aims to introduce newly enrolled students to the important role of the library in supporting their academic studies and overall learning experience. Students will be provided with an overview of the resources available through MNU Libraries, including print and digital collections, as well as the various facilities and services offered to support teaching, learning and research.
The orientation will also familiarise students with the basic library rules and guidelines, helping them make effective and responsible use of library facilities and resources. Particular emphasis will be placed on the academic role of the library and the importance of making regular use of reliable information resources to support coursework, assignments and independent learning.
As part of the session, students will also receive a practical demonstration on searching for library materials using the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The demonstration will guide students through the process of locating books and other available resources, identifying relevant materials, and effectively using the library catalogue to support their academic needs.
Through this orientation, MNU Library aims to ensure that new students are familiar with the resources and services available to them from the beginning of their university journey and are equipped to make effective use of the Library as an essential partner in their academic success.
