The Maldives National University, through its College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, in collaboration with the Australian High Commission, successfully hosted a public lecture and film screening on 30 March 2026 at the B-Block Auditorium, MNU Central.
The lecture, titled “Scaling Coral Reef Restoration and Adaptation,” was delivered by Christopher Doropoulos, a research scientist from CSIRO. His presentation highlighted key insights into coral reef ecology, innovative restoration techniques, and the role of larval seeding in supporting reef recovery.
Following the lecture, attendees engaged in a networking tea session before proceeding to the screening of the film Blueback. The film portrays the story of a young girl who forms a unique bond with a fish and grows into an advocate for the protection of Australia’s coral reefs.
The event served as a platform to enhance awareness and dialogue on coral reef conservation and restoration, bringing together students, researchers, and stakeholders with a shared interest in marine sustainability.
