MNU Marathon 2026 Concludes Successfully with Record Participation

The Maldives National University (MNU) successfully concluded its “MNU Marathon 2026” this morning, recording a milestone achievement with the participation of more than 1,400 runners, an increase of 400 participants compared to last year’s event. The marathon commenced at 2:00 AM from Hulhumalé Central Park, beginning with the flagship 42-kilometer full marathon. The event then continued with the half marathon (21 km), followed by the 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races. A special “Kids Dash” was also held at 7:00 AM, creating an inclusive platform for younger participants to actively engage in the event.

In a notable development this year, MNU introduced a dedicated Over-65 category for both men and women, recognizing and encouraging senior citizens to participate actively marking a progressive expansion from previous editions. According to the university, all runners who successfully completed their respective race distances were awarded finisher’s medals in recognition of their achievement. A separate prize distribution ceremony will be held to present cash awards to podium finishers across all race categories.

MNU emphasized that the marathon is organized with the core objectives of promoting healthy lifestyles, strengthening community bonds, and fostering the “MNU Spirit” among students, staff, alumni, and the wider public.

Under the prize structure, winners of the Full Marathon (42 km) in both men’s and women’s categories will receive MVR 10,000 for first place, MVR 7,000 for second place, and MVR 5,000 for third place, while the Over-65 category winners will receive MVR 10,000. In the Half Marathon (21 km), first place winners will receive MVR 7,000, second place MVR 5,000, and third place MVR 3,000, with Over-65 winners also receiving MVR 7,000. For the 10 km race, first, second, and third place winners will be awarded MVR 5,000, MVR 3,000, and MVR 2,000 respectively, while Over-65 winners will receive MVR 5,000. In the 5 km race, prizes include MVR 3,000 for first place, MVR 2,000 for second place, and MVR 1,000 for third place, with Over-65 winners receiving MVR 3,000.
