SHAAMILU MASHVARA: DISABILITY INCLUSION AND BEYOND

03 December 2025

In celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), a special forum titled “Shaamilu Mashvara: Disability Inclusion and Beyond” was held today, bringing together national experts, students, and community advocates to deepen dialogue and commitment toward disability inclusion in the Maldives.

This important event was made possible through the impactful collaboration of UNICEF, The Maldives National University (MNU), and the Department of Inclusive Education (DOIE) under the Ministry of Education. The forum provided a platform to highlight ongoing efforts, identify key challenges, and explore strategies for building a more inclusive society that empowers persons with disabilities.

Discussions emphasized that at its core, the message is clear: building disability-inclusive societies is essential for driving sustainable social progress. Participants underscored that meaningful, multi-sector collaboration remains central to turning this vision into long-lasting and tangible change.

Representatives from UNICEF, MNU, and DoIE shared insights on strengthening inclusive education, enhancing accessibility, and fostering environments where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive. The forum also encouraged continued partnership between institutions, communities, and government agencies to ensure that inclusion becomes an integral part of all national development efforts.

As the event concluded, all partners reaffirmed their shared commitment: Together, we move forward towards a more inclusive, equitable, and empowered Maldives.
