The Maldives National University Student Scholarship is introduced by the University Council to assist students who face difficulties in pursuing higher education due to financial constraints or academic barriers. The University Scholarship Scheme is established by the University Council, and its cost is covered by the income generated by the University.
The Shaheed Award was introduced in 1999 by the Office of the President of the Maldives to commemorate the martyrdom of Shaheed Ahmed Rasheed, who was martyred on 3rd November 1988. The award is given to the student who achieves the best results in the first semester of the highest-level course conducted in four faculties of the Maldives National University (MNU):
- Centre for Maritime Studies (CMS)
- Faculty of Engineering, Science & Technology (FEST)
- Faculty of Hospitality & Tourism Studies (FHTS)
- MNU Business School
Types of Scholarships in the Scheme
- Tuition Fee Scholarships (Undergraduate and Postgraduate)
- Covers tuition fees payable to the University.
- Undergraduate Full Scholarships
- Covers tuition fees.
- Includes a cash allowance for the full duration of the program.
- Postgraduate Full Scholarships
- Covers tuition fees.
- Includes a cash allowance for the full duration of the program.
In addition to these three, the Shaheed Ahmed Rasheed Award is also granted.

- Includes a monthly cash allowance provided from the date the scholarship is awarded and continuing throughout the full duration of the course.

A total of 24 scholarships were announced across 3 categories:
- Tuition Fee Scholarships

Applications received:
- Tuition Fee Scholarships: 49 applicants for 20 opportunities
- Undergraduate Full Scholarships: 31 applicants for 2 opportunities
- Postgraduate Full Scholarships: 9 applicants for 2 opportunities

In the second term of 2025, 44 students are studying under the three scholarship categories and the Shaheed Award.

- Undergraduate Tuition Fee Scholarship – 3 students
- Postgraduate Tuition Fee Scholarship – 4 students
