Malé, Maldives, 28 September 2025 – MNU–FHS Inaugurates state-of-the-art Pharmacy Laboratory capable of testing medicine quality, marking a significant milestone in the development of its pharmacy program at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The opening coincided with the commemoration of World Pharmacists Day, adding special meaning to the occasion.
The new Pharmacy Laboratory represents an important investment in student learning and the future of healthcare in the Maldives. It is designed to provide pharmacy students with hands-on training, enabling them to develop critical skills in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmaceutics, and pharmaceutical analysis.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, MNU vice chancellor, Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam emphasized that the laboratory is more than a facility—it is a platform where knowledge, practice, and research converge to prepare competent, ethical, and innovative pharmacists.
“This lab reflects MNU’s vision of preparing graduates who can lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to society. It also supports the government’s pledge to train 1,500 healthcare professionals by ensuring that we are not only expanding capacity but also raising the quality of healthcare education in the Maldives.”

The initiative builds upon the university’s long-standing journey in pharmacy education, which began with diploma and dispensing courses and has since grown to include four batches of the Bachelor of Pharmacy program and one Advanced Certificate in Pharmacy (ACP) batch.
The new laboratory also lays the foundation for future Master’s programs and interprofessional research collaborations.
On this occasion, MNU also recognized the vital contributions of pharmacists as healthcare professionals, educators, and researchers. Their role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines, improving patient outcomes, and advancing public health was highlighted as an inspiration for current and future students.
