Dean (School of Nursing)

Biography

Asiya Ibrahim is currently the Dean of School of Nursing, The Maldives National University. She started her career as an Assistant tutor in Institute of Health Sciences and then promoted to Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer and Senior lecturer in Faculty of Health Sciences, Maldives college of Higher Education which later became the Maldives National University (MNU). With the inception of School of Nursing as separate school with in MNU, Asiya is the first Dean and now serving second term.

Asiya has over 23 years of experience in nursing education. Her main area of expert in teaching are nursing management, qualitative research and nursing theories. She has been instrumental in curriculum development and initiation of Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing in MNU. Additionally, she has experience of conducting qualitative research and presently she supervises Master of Nursing students’ research projects.

Asiya in her professional capacity has been a member of Maldives Nursing and Midwifery Council (MNMC) and served for 5 years term from 2015-2020. During this period, she has been an acting registrar from 2015-2016 and also president MNMC during the year 2017. She is also is one of the founder members of Maldives Nurses Association (MNA) and has served in executive committee from 2009-2011 as both vice president and later president of the association. At present is she a advisory board member of MNA. Asiya is an editorial committee member for the Journal of Journal of Problem-Based Learning, by Halla·Newcastle PBL Education and Research Center, Cheju Halla Universit, South Korea. Asiya has wide knowledge and experience in nursing and nursing education and contributed to the profession in various capacity.
