Faculty of Shari‘ah and Law was established as a Government institute in 11th August 1999, but was subsequently incorporated into Maldives National University in 2011.
Faculty of Shari‘ah & Law is an established center of research in classical Islamic law as well as in contemporary legal education. The Faculty is a pioneer institution which is trying to bridge the gap between Islamic Laws and Contemporary Laws. The Faculty is not only trying to bring harmonization between Law and Shari‘ah but it is also trying to contribute in the development of Islamic Laws in accordance with the needs of the time.
A large number of students graduated from the faculty are working in the judicial, litigation and teaching departments throughout Maldives and worldwide.

ސަލާމާއި ޞަލަވާތްލެއްވި އިތުރު އެކަލޭގެފާނު ޙަދީޘްކުރެއްވިއެވެ. “مُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ الخَيْرَ އަށް މާތް ﷲ ރަޙުމަތް ލައްވަތެވެ. އަދި މަލާއިކަތުން ވެސް އެމީހުނައްޓަކައި ހެޔޮ ދުޢާކުރައްވަތެވެ. އަދި ކިއެއްތަ ކަނޑުގައި އުޅޭމަސްތަކާއި ހޮރުތަކުގައިއުޅޭ ހިނިތަކަށް ދާންދެން އެފަދަ މީހުނަށް ހެޔޮ ދުޢާކުރެއެވެ.”
مُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ الخَيْرَ ގެ މުރާދަކީ ޝަރީޢަތުގެ ޢިލްމުކަމަށް ގިނަޢިލްމުވެރިން ވިދާޅުވެއެވެ. އަދި ދުނިޔެއާއި އާޚިރަތު ބާއްޖަވެރިކުރުވާ ހުރިހާ ޢިލްމެއްވެސް الخير ގެ ތެރެއަށް ވަންނަ ހުއްޓެވެ. މިގޮތުން މީސްތަކުންގެ މެދުގައި ޢިލްމު ފެތުރުމުގެ މަޤުޞަދުގައި ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ ޤަވްމީ ޔުނިވަރސިޓީގެ އެހެނިހެން ފެކަލްޓީތަކެކޭ ވެސް އެއްފަދައިން ފެކަލްޓީ އޮފް ޝަރީޢާ އެންޑް ލޯއިން މުޖުތަމަޢުގައި ޢިލްމުގެ އަލިކަން ފެތުރުމަށްޓަކައި މިފަށައިގަންނަ މަސައްކަތަކީ މުޖުތަމަޢުއަށް ފައިދާހުރި މަސައްކަތެއްކަމުގައި ވާނެކަމަށް އުއްމީދުކުރަމެވެ.

Bachelor of Shari'ah & Law (Honours)
This is a four-year honors degree comprising of law, shariah and Arabic modules. The program adheres to the minimum standards of the Bar Council of Maldives and is developed to help students build foundational knowledge in the practice of law, as well soft skills required to succeed in the legal profession. It further provides exit points so that students can achieve professional qualifications at Diploma and Advanced Diploma level.
The shariah modules are taught in Dhivehi, while the law modules are taught in English. The program is advertised twice a year for students interested in developing a law career.
