World Pharmacists Day 2024 – Health Awareness and Fundraising Programme

As part of the World Pharmacists Day 2024 celebrations, the Department of Pharmacy organized a series of health promotion, awareness, and fundraising activities to engage students, staff, and the wider university community. Fundraising initiatives, including food stalls and a Movie Night, encouraged teamwork, leadership, and event management skills among pharmacy students while supporting departmental activities.
The main event was held under the theme of promoting the pharmacist’s role in improving public health and advancing sustainable healthcare. Interactive educational stalls, including Know Your Meds, Course Information, and Health Screening, provided visitors with practical health information and encouraged informed healthcare decisions. Pharmacy students also developed educational posters on important public health topics such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, steroid use and adverse effects, antibiotic resistance and antimicrobial stewardship, asthma and correct inhaler technique, and cancer awareness and prevention. Recreational activities complemented the educational displays, creating an engaging environment that attracted students, staff, and visitors.

The programme enhanced public awareness of disease prevention, medication safety, and the vital role of pharmacists in promoting health and improving patient outcomes. Through interactive education and health screening activities, participants gained practical knowledge that supports informed health decisions and the responsible use of medicines.

For pharmacy students, the event provided valuable experiential learning by developing competencies in health communication, leadership, teamwork, and community engagement. It also strengthened students’ professional identity and reinforced the importance of pharmacists as accessible healthcare professionals and public health advocates.

By bringing together students, staff, and the wider community, the initiative fostered collaboration and encouraged sustained engagement in health promotion activities, contributing to a healthier, better-informed, and more health-conscious community.
