Professor Krishnakant Budhavant
Dr. Krishnakant Budhavant is an Environmental Scientist at the Maldives Climate Observatory-Hanimaadhoo (MCOH), Maldives. He holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and the University of Pune, India, and brings two decades of comprehensive experience in diverse roles across India, Maldives, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Sweden. Dr. Budhavant’s research focuses on understanding how human activities perturb the climate and the related biogeochemical cycle in the global land-ocean-atmosphere system. With a keen focus on field observations and sampling, he and his team employ advanced methodologies in various locations, ranging from the Antarctic and Arctic regions to heavily populated urban centers in South Asia. Dr. Budhavant’s contributions have garnered numerous national and international accolades and fellowships, including the Paul Crutzen International Climate Fellow and the Marie Curie Fellowship. Furthermore, he provides invaluable scientific counsel to graduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students and is widely acknowledged for his specialized expertise in aerosol research, particularly about South Asia. Dr. Budhavant remains dedicated to nurturing enhanced partnerships between observational and modeling teams to advance the region’s understanding of rainwater and aerosol-cloud chemistry and its broader climate ramifications. Dr. Budhavant and the international science team at MCOH (led by Prof. Örjan Gustafsson) are highly engaged in cross-disciplinary initiatives, both in education and in interactions with society and policymakers, to contribute to finding solutions for bending the curve of climate change.
