The Research Development Office (RDO) recently concluded a series of research capacity-building sessions aimed at enhancing the academic and research competencies of postgraduate students. The programme attracted nearly 100 participants across multiple workshops, highlighting the growing commitment of students to strengthening their research expertise.
Designed to provide comprehensive support throughout the research journey, the sessions addressed a broad spectrum of topics, including research design and methodology, literature review strategies, academic writing, proposal preparation, research ethics, data collection and analysis techniques, referencing and citation methods, and effective dissemination of research findings.
Delivered by experienced academics and research practitioners, the workshops combined theoretical knowledge with practical applications, enabling participants to develop skills that are essential for conducting high-quality and impactful research. Interactive discussions, real-world examples, and dedicated question-and-answer segments provided students with opportunities to engage directly with experts and gain valuable insights into contemporary research practices.
The initiative catered to students at different stages of their postgraduate studies, from those developing initial research concepts to those progressing through data analysis and thesis writing. The sessions aimed to build confidence, promote ethical research conduct, and encourage critical thinking and scholarly excellence.
The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback received from attendees underscore the importance of such professional development opportunities in supporting postgraduate success. Many participants noted that the workshops offered practical guidance that could be immediately applied to their academic work and future research endeavours.
The programme aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting advanced learning opportunities and strengthening research skills. It also contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the development of research and innovation capabilities, while supporting SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and academic engagement within the university community.
Through initiatives such as these, the Research Development Office continues to play a vital role in advancing research excellence, nurturing the next generation of researchers, and strengthening the university’s culture of innovation and scholarly achievement.
