The Research Development Office (RDO) successfully conducted a series of academic development sessions for postgraduate students, attracting a combined enrolment of approximately 100 participants across multiple workshops. The initiative was designed to strengthen the research capabilities of postgraduate students and provide practical guidance on key aspects of the research process.
The sessions covered a diverse range of topics essential for postgraduate research, including literature review techniques, research ethics, research methodology, academic writing, proposal development, data collection and analysis, referencing and citation practices, and research dissemination. Facilitated by experienced academics and research professionals, the workshops provided participants with valuable insights and practical skills that can be applied throughout their research journeys.
The programme was tailored to support students at various stages of their postgraduate studies, from those beginning to develop research proposals to those actively engaged in conducting and writing up research. Through interactive discussions, practical examples, and question-and-answer sessions, participants gained a deeper understanding of research principles, best practices, and the standards expected of high-quality scholarly work.
According to the Research Development Office, strengthening research capacity among postgraduate students remains a key institutional priority. The sessions were developed to enhance students’ confidence in undertaking rigorous, ethical, and impactful research while fostering a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning.
The strong participation across all sessions reflects the growing interest among postgraduate students in advancing their research knowledge and skills. Participants expressed appreciation for the practical nature of the workshops and the opportunity to engage directly with experienced researchers on topics highly relevant to their academic and professional development.
The initiative contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting inclusive and equitable access to quality higher education and lifelong learning opportunities. The programme also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the development of research and innovation capacity, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the academic community.
The Research Development Office plans to continue offering similar professional development opportunities in the future as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting postgraduate education, strengthening research culture, and advancing research excellence within the university community.
