The “Redhan” Art Exhibition showcased the creativity, innovation and artistic perspectives of Visual Arts students of the Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU), providing an opportunity for emerging artists to present their work to the wider community.
Inspired by the striking brilliance of bioluminescence, the exhibition provided students with a platform to transform their academic learning into creative works for public engagement. The displayed collections reflected students’ engagement with contemporary issues and explored themes including personal identity and collective responsibility, encouraging audiences to consider different perspectives and ideas through artistic expression.
The exhibition also highlighted the use of sustainable artistic practices, with several student artists incorporating found objects and environmentally friendly materials into their artworks. These approaches encouraged reflection on consumption patterns, the use of resources and the relationship between people and the natural environment.
Through the public presentation of student artworks, “Redhan” created an opportunity for meaningful interaction between emerging artists and the community. The exhibition demonstrated how visual arts can provide a platform for dialogue, encourage critical reflection and communicate perspectives on social and environmental issues.
The exhibition contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with an opportunity to apply creative knowledge and skills in a public, experiential learning environment. It supports SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the use of found objects and environmentally friendly artistic materials and by encouraging reflection on consumption practices. The exhibition also aligns with SDG 13 (Climate Action) through creative engagement with environmental themes and awareness of human relationships with nature, while supporting SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by providing a platform for diverse perspectives and encouraging inclusive community engagement through art.
