Uza. Zimna Abdhul Muhusin

Biography

Uza. Zimna Abdul Muhsin is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Shariah and Law of The Maldives National University (MNU), where she currently serves as the Head of the Department of Law. She teaches core legal subjects within the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program and contributes significantly to institutional governance. She has served as an Academic Representative Member on the MNU Council and is an active member of the Academic Senate, as well as various other university committees where she oversees academic policies and contributes to curriculum development. Her broad research interests encompass Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Family Law, Employment Law, Islamic Jurisprudence, and Legal Education, and she has presented her scholarly work at both national and international conferences.

In addition to her academic leadership, Zimna is a highly accomplished legal practitioner who has been licensed to practice law in the Maldives since November 2005. Holding Higher Rights of Audience, she is qualified to appear before the lower courts, the High Court and the Supreme Court of the Maldives. She currently manages her own law office, Zimna & Associates, and is a partner at Sulthan & Amhar LLP. Her extensive litigation background includes significant public sector experience, having previously served at both the Attorney General’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s Office. In these roles, she undertook extensive legal drafting and represented the State across the Lower Courts, the High Court, and the Supreme Court. Expanding her expertise into alternative dispute resolution, she is also a licensed mediator accredited by Accrued Group Australia

Beyond her legal practice and teaching, Zimna contributes significantly to the regulation, development, and standard-setting of the Maldivian legal profession through key leadership roles within the Bar Council of the Maldives. She has been a foundational member of the council’s Licensing Committee since its inception, previously serving as its Vice Chair. Furthermore, she brings her academic and practical expertise to the Bar Exam Committee of Experts, playing a vital role in shaping the entry standards and examinations for the next generation of Maldivian lawyers.
