
Sofoora Abdul Latheef is a highly experienced nursing professional and educator with a strong background in both clinical practice and academic teaching. She is currently serving as a Lecturer at the Maldives National University (MNU), where she plays an active role in teaching nursing modules and mentoring students. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as a Subject Coordinator and Batch Coordinator, demonstrating leadership in academic planning and providing effective student guidance.
Her academic experience is complemented by her role as a Lecturer at Villa College (2023–2024), where she had delivered both face-to-face and online teaching, supervised clinical practice of students, conducted practical examinations, and contributed to the development of nursing programs.
Additionally, with over two decades of healthcare experience, she served as Clinical Nurse and Head of the Dialysis Unit at Villimale’ Hospital (2019–2023), where she managed unit operations, focusing on high standards of patient care, and staff supervision ensuring unit efficiency. Prior to this, she worked as a Senior Registered Nurse at Villimale’ Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where she was involved in providing patient care, supervision of staff, infection control, patient safety, and in-service training programs. Her early career includes roles as a Registered Nurse and Clinical Assistant at IGMH, contributing to a wide range of clinical and diagnostic services.
She has also undertaken several additional responsibilities, including serving as a Patient Safety and Infection Control Nurse, being a member of the Patient Safety & Risk Management Committee, and focal point for nursing students and in-service education. She has contributed as a Practical Examiner and part-time Lecturer at MNU, further strengthening her academic profile.
Passionate about teaching and mentoring, she is dedicated to support student learning, and advancement of healthcare practice in the Maldives. Her career reflects a strong blend of clinical expertise, leadership, and commitment to education.
