Hawwa Nazeema

Lecturer

Biography

Hawwa Nazeema is a Lecturer at the School of Nursing, Maldives National University, with extensive clinical and academic experience. She has over 12 years of professional experience in healthcare, having worked in a variety of clinical settings, including medical, surgical, gynaecology, paediatric, and emergency wards, as well as the operating theatre and labour room, where she provided comprehensive patient care.

Before joining academia, she worked at Hulhumalé Hospital in the Paediatric Ward, where she also served as a Second In-Charge of the ward and worked as a Nursing Shift Coordinator of the hospital. She previously worked at Dhaal Atoll Hospital as a Registered Nurse and held leadership roles as the In-Charge of the General Ward and Treatment Room. Her diverse clinical experience has significantly influenced her teaching, enabling her to effectively integrate real-world clinical practice into nursing education.

As a nursing educator, Nazeema is committed to developing nursing graduates with strong clinical competence, critical thinking, and sound clinical decision-making skills. Her teaching incorporates innovative educational approaches, including simulation-based learning and technology-enhanced teaching methods. She has contributed to national projects aimed at strengthening nursing education and healthcare capacity in the Maldives.

Nazeema has experience in curriculum development and has actively participated in the review, development, and delivery of undergraduate nursing courses. She also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking evidence-based research and final-year projects. In addition, she has published research and presented her work at an international conference

  • Contributed to National Thalassemia Prevention and Control Plan for Maldives 2024-203 validation workshop for stakeholders. 
  • Revised the pediatric  nursing and pediatric nursing practice  course outline, developed teaching materials, and taught nursing subjects to undergraduate students from 2019 to 2025.
  • Supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students in their evidence based final Project (Master and bachelor level students)
