Biography

Fathimath Shafeeq is a Senior Lecturer at the Humanities and Education Department, Faculty of Education, (MNU). In 2002, she completed her Master of Arts (MA) in English Language Teaching in University of the Nottingham, UK and in 1997, she completed Batchelor of Education (Bed) in English Language Teaching In University of College St. Mark and St, John Plymouth, UK.  In addition, she also has completed Certificate in Education Studies in Institute of Education (IE) in Singapore and Diploma of Pre-school teaching in Sri Lanka.

She has over 30 years of teaching experience in secondary, primary and preschool education and training teachers of undergraduate courses, mentoring, coordinating and supervising student respective courses and developing course outlines 

Area of Interest

  • Teaching English language 
  • Planning Course outlines for different course of English
  • Coordinating- BATEFL course, Primary courses & Early Child courses as well
  • Coordination of FESA ( Faculty of Education Student Association)
  • Mentoring students’ practical teaching and record keeping.
  • Selection and orientation of candidates to the courses

Teaching Interest

Teaching & Training – Bachelor’s degree courses, BATEFL courses, Diploma of Primary, Early Childhood Education and Advanced Certification of Education courses 

  • Planning and developing course outlines for bachelor’s degree courses, BATEFL courses, Diploma of Primary, Early Childhood Education and Advanced Certification of Education courses.
  • Observation and assessing FE student teachers in their school experience programs in respective schools & mentoring their practice teaching in primary and secondary schools in the Maldives
  • BATEFL batch Co-ordination, facilitate and monitor students’ performance
  • Plan, organize and keep records of individual student teachers’ performances in each subject (for the Batch) for each semester.

Research Experience

1) Research carried on while doing the Master of Education studies, 

2) Teacher Effectiveness Survey (Funded by UNESCO)

This study has been initiated and data collected from one of regions identified. I was involved in the initial study organization and data collection. The survey work was completed in July 2004.

3) The survey on Evaluation of the Utility of the Booklet produced by the Ministry of Gender, Family Development and Social Security. I was involved in the initial study organization and data collection. (The survey work is completed in December 2005)
