Biography

Dr. Abdul Sattar Abdul Rahman is a senior Islamic scholar and academic leader specializing in Tafsir (Qur’anic Exegesis), Qur’anic Sciences, Fiqh, and Islamic Law. He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the National University of Maldives and as Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Fathuwa in the Republic of Maldives.

He holds a Ph.D. in Tafsir and Qur’anic Sciences and a Master’s degree in Tafsir and Hadith from the International Islamic University, Islamabad, in addition to advanced qualifications in Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, and Education. With over twenty years of teaching and academic leadership experience, he has served in various capacities including Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer, and Visiting Lecturer at leading higher education institutions in the Maldives.

Dr. Abdul Sattar has also contributed extensively to national Islamic legal and advisory bodies, including service as Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Minister at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and as a Member of the Maldivian Islamic Fiqh Academy.

A prolific author, his scholarly works focus on Islamic jurisprudence, criminal law, personal status law, and legal theory, alongside peer-reviewed journal articles on contemporary Islamic legal issues. He is currently engaged in major research projects, including a comprehensive work on Fiqh of Transactions, and an ongoing Tafsir of the Qur’an in the Maldivian language.
