Aminath Shafa

Biography

Aminath Shafa is a Lecturer at the School of Nursing, Maldives National University, Department of Specialty Nursing. She has over a decade of experience in nursing practice and higher education, with expertise in emergency nursing, clinical education, nursing assessment, and simulation-based learning.

Prior to joining academia, Shafa worked as a Staff Nurse at ADK Hospital before serving as a Registered Nurse at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where she gained extensive experience in acute and emergency patient care. Since joining the School of Nursing in 2018, she has progressed from Associate Lecturer to Lecturer and has been actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes, curriculum development, clinical supervision, and assessment.

As a nursing educator, Shafa is passionate about preparing competent, reflective, and evidence-based practitioners. Her teaching focuses on promoting clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and decision-making through student-centred learning, simulation, and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). She is actively involved in curriculum development, clinical assessment, and the integration of innovative teaching strategies to enhance nursing education.

Her research interests include nursing education, simulation-based learning, clinical competence, OSCE, assessment and evaluation, emergency nursing, and students’ learning experiences. She is currently pursuing research in nursing education with a particular focus on reducing OSCE-related stress and improving clinical preparedness among undergraduate nursing students.

Shafa is a certified American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider, reflecting her commitment to maintaining excellence in emergency and resuscitation practice.
