FHS Promotes Physical Activity and Fitness Awareness at Fahi Sihath 2025

15 February 2025

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), The Maldives National University (MNU), participated in Fahi Sihath on 15 February 2025, conducting a range of fitness assessments to promote physical activity and fitness awareness among MNU staff and members of the public.

The initiative involved three FHS staff members and seven MNU students, who engaged approximately 50 participants through practical fitness assessments. These included step tests, push-up tests, chair sit-to-stand assessments, and floor sit-to-stand assessments.

The activities provided participants with an opportunity to engage with different measures of physical fitness and encouraged greater awareness of physical functioning and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. By offering simple, practical assessments in an accessible setting, the FHS team was able to engage directly with members of the university and wider community around physical activity and wellbeing.

Participation in Fahi Sihath also enabled FHS to extend health promotion beyond the university environment. Direct interaction with the public provided a platform for sharing health-related information while encouraging individuals to take an active interest in their physical fitness.

For the seven students involved, participation provided practical experience in conducting fitness assessments and communicating with members of the public under the guidance of FHS staff.

Community-based activities such as Fahi Sihath complement the Faculty’s academic role by connecting health sciences expertise with public engagement. They also provide opportunities for FHS staff and students to contribute to initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles and greater awareness of physical activity within the community.

The initiative contributes to **Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being** through its focus on physical activity, fitness awareness, and community health promotion.
