The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) marked International Social Workers Day in May by highlighting the experiences and perspectives of students enrolled in its Social Work programmes through a series of social media testimonials.

The initiative featured testimonials from Social Work students, providing an opportunity for current students to share their experiences of studying Social Work and their perspectives on the profession. The testimonials were supported by Mariyam Neerish, Zeenath Shakir and Aminath Samha, alongside students from the Social Work programmes.

By placing students at the centre of the campaign, FHS provided prospective students and the wider community with authentic insights into Social Work education, student experiences and potential professional pathways. The initiative also helped highlight the contribution of Social Work to individuals, families and communities and the diverse roles social workers can undertake.

Student-led communication offers a meaningful way to increase awareness of academic programmes while enabling current students to share their experiences directly with prospective learners. The campaign supported greater visibility of Social Work education at FHS and encouraged engagement with the programme and profession.

The initiative reflects FHS’s commitment to promoting Social Work education and strengthening awareness of the profession among prospective students and the wider community.

The campaign contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through its focus on health and social wellbeing, education and professional development, inclusive engagement, and collaboration within the Social Work community.
