The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at The Maldives National University (MNU) held a collaboration meeting with representatives from IMU University to explore opportunities for international academic cooperation, student practical training, and professional development.
The meeting was attended by Dean Aishath Shanoora and Heads of Departments from FHS, alongside Professor Purushtham Krishnappa, Dean of Global Engagement, and Mr. Sebastian Loh, Director of Marketing and Enrolment, representing IMU University.
Discussions focused on three key areas of potential collaboration. These included opportunities for practicum training for Pharmacy students to strengthen their practical knowledge and professional competencies; staff development programmes to support continuous professional learning and knowledge exchange; and the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for future collaboration between the two universities.
The proposed initiatives aim to strengthen health sciences education by expanding opportunities for experiential learning, enhancing staff capacity, and facilitating the exchange of academic expertise and best practices. The discussions also highlighted the importance of international partnerships in supporting educational quality and developing a skilled healthcare workforce.
The meeting represents a step towards building stronger institutional relationships and exploring sustainable collaboration in health professions education, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
The meeting established a foundation for potential international collaboration in pharmacy practicum training, staff development, and institutional cooperation. If progressed into formal agreements and implemented initiatives, these partnerships could enhance students’ practical learning experiences, strengthen staff competencies, and contribute to improving the quality and relevance of health sciences education in the Maldives.
