As part of the Health Professions Education Capacity Development Programme, a series of workshops and collaborative sessions were conducted in the Maldives following the international training component in Australia. The programme comprised an Orientation to Remote Health Contexts, a Coaching Workshop, a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Workshop, Educational Research Workshops Part 1 and Part 2, a Dissemination of Educational Research and Scholarship Workshop, a Planning Meeting with AAF Fellows, and a Generative AI in Education Workshop. These sessions aimed to strengthen participants’ competencies in health professions education, educational research, curriculum development, and innovative teaching and learning strategies. The programme also focused on contextualising global best practices to the Maldivian healthcare and education setting, with an emphasis on improving teaching effectiveness and research output in health professions education.

The programme strengthened the capacity of health professions educators in the Maldives by enhancing expertise in teaching methodologies, educational research, and academic leadership. Participants developed practical skills in coaching, problem‑based learning, and curriculum innovation, leading to higher quality training for future healthcare professionals. The integration of educational research and scholarship fostered a stronger academic culture, while exposure to emerging tools such as generative AI advanced digital literacy and promoted modern, technology‑enabled teaching practices.
