The Dhivehi Language Crash Course provided participants with an accessible opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the Dhivehi language, with a focus on essential aspects of Dhivehi grammar and language registers. The short course was designed for language enthusiasts and participants seeking to enhance their practical knowledge and use of Dhivehi in academic, professional, and everyday communication.
Conducted in a hybrid format over three hours, the course enabled participants from Malé and different islands across the atolls to take part in the same learning programme. The flexible delivery format supported wider participation and provided learners from different geographic locations with access to language education without requiring them to travel to a single physical location.
The course provided practical learning opportunities in Dhivehi language use, helping participants develop their language knowledge and communication skills. Stronger communication skills can support learners in academic and professional settings, while greater understanding of language registers can help participants communicate more appropriately across different contexts.
The initiative also contributed to the preservation and continued learning of the Dhivehi language, providing participants with structured exposure to the linguistic features and appropriate use of the national language. It further provided an opportunity for participants to engage with the academic work and learning pathways offered through the Dhivehi Department.
By extending participation to learners in Malé and across the atolls through a hybrid learning model, the Dhivehi Language Crash Course promoted inclusive access to educational opportunities and reduced geographical barriers to participation. The initiative demonstrates how flexible learning approaches can support wider access to language education and lifelong learning.
The Dhivehi Language Crash Course contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing accessible language learning and skills development, and to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by extending participation opportunities to learners from Malé and different islands across the Maldives through a hybrid learning format.
