The Health Protection Agency and FHS’s Department of Public Health met on 20 October 2024 to discuss how antimicrobial resistance could be integrated into health sciences curricula.

Participants considered antimicrobial resistance concepts and World Health Organization guidance across Primary Health Care, Health Services Management, Public Health, and Occupational Health and Safety programmes. The discussions supported curriculum planning in line with the National AMR Plan 2024–2029 and the preparation of future professionals for antimicrobial stewardship.

Preparing future health professionals to understand antimicrobial use and resistance is relevant to patient safety and the wider response to this national and global health challenge.

The initiative relates to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through antimicrobial stewardship, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through curriculum development, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through cooperation with the Health Protection Agency.
