The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) conducted its Know Your University programme on 22 October 2026, bringing together colleagues from across The Maldives National University (MNU) and students from the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) to explore the Faculty’s academic programmes, expertise, and contributions to health professional education in the Maldives.
The programme introduced participants to the diverse roles involved in delivering comprehensive patient care through an interactive, hands-on learning experience. Participants followed a fictional patient’s journey from an emergency incident through laboratory investigations, medication review, rehabilitation, communication support, and psychosocial care.
At each station, participants uncovered another part of the patient’s story and worked in teams to solve challenges before receiving clues to the next location. This activity encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and an appreciation of how different health professions contribute to a patient’s recovery and overall well-being.
FHS academic staff and students facilitated the programme. A total of 20 participants took part in the activity.
Participants responded positively to the programme, highlighting the opportunity to gain practical insights into the different stages of a holistic patient care journey. For CFS students, the experience also offered an introduction to potential areas of future study, helping them explore the academic pathways available within health sciences.
Through this initiative, FHS strengthened awareness of the Faculty’s academic programmes and the range of learning experiences it offers. The interactive approach also demonstrated the importance of collaboration among health professionals in addressing patients’ needs across different stages of care.
The programme supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing engaging learning experiences that build awareness of health professions and their educational pathways. It also aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering connections among FHS, other MNU colleagues, and CFS students.
Through activities such as *Know Your University*, FHS continues to promote engagement, interdisciplinary understanding, and awareness of the diverse pathways available for contributing to the health and well-being of communities in the Maldives.
