From 29th May 2025 to 30th July 2026, Dean Nadhiya Ahmed, Senior Lecturer Mohamed Shihab, Mohamed Shameem Adam, Mariyam Azra Abdul Raheem, and Senior Lecturer Dr. Aminath Waseela have been actively involved in delivering the Capacity Building of Secondary Mathematics Teachers on Teaching Strategies for Students with Complex Learning Profiles (SCLP) Project. The training programme is conducted under the World Bank-supported Atoll Education Development Project and is implemented by the Department of Inclusive Education in collaboration with the Faculty of Education, The Maldives National University (MNU).
As part of the initiative, a series of workshops have been conducted across schools throughout the Maldives to enhance the professional knowledge and instructional practices of secondary Mathematics teachers. The programme is designed to strengthen teachers’ confidence and competence in supporting students with complex learning profiles through a comprehensive professional development package that incorporates evidence-based teaching strategies tailored to diverse learning needs.
The workshops provide practical guidance on inclusive classroom practices, differentiated instruction, learner support strategies, and approaches that enable teachers to create more accessible and effective learning environments for all students. Through active engagement with teachers across the country, the programme contributes to improving educational outcomes and ensuring that learners with diverse needs receive appropriate support within mainstream classrooms.
The initiative demonstrates the Faculty of Education’s commitment to advancing inclusive education, strengthening teacher capacity, and supporting equitable learning opportunities for all students. It also highlights the importance of collaboration among national and international education partners in promoting sustainable improvements in teaching and learning practices.
The activity supports SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening inclusive teaching practices and enhancing teacher professional capacity; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by promoting equitable access to quality education for students with diverse learning needs; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration among the World Bank, educational institutions, and stakeholders working together to advance inclusive education in the Maldives.
