The Maldives National University (MNU), through its Examination Department in collaboration with the Maldives Medical and Dental Council (MMDC), examined 366 doctors for licensing in 2024. The examinations support the maintenance of professional medical standards and contribute to ensuring that doctors possess the required knowledge and competencies to practice medicine safely and effectively in the Maldives.
Medical licensing examinations play an important role in assessing doctors against established professional requirements before they are licensed to practice. By evaluating medical knowledge and competency, the examinations help safeguard patient welfare, strengthen public confidence in healthcare services and support the delivery of safe, quality medical care.
The licensing process also highlights the importance of continuous professional development in the medical field. As medical knowledge, technologies and treatment practices continue to evolve, ongoing learning enables doctors to maintain their professional competencies and respond effectively to changing healthcare needs.
Through its collaboration with MMDC, MNU contributes to strengthening professional accountability and supporting the development of a qualified medical workforce. This partnership demonstrates the value of cooperation between educational institutions and regulatory authorities in maintaining healthcare standards, promoting professional learning and protecting the well-being of communities across the Maldives.
